Hendersonville Epicurean is not above admitting a mistake!
Breakfast at Mean Mr. Mustard’s Cafe today (Wednesday May 20th) seemed like the perfect way to start a day of running errands around Hendersonville.
As the server delivered a double order of Eggs Abraham to a couple at the table next to us, one of the two said (to my utter surprise and glee), “I read on that blog that this would be better with a steak knife”. To which the server said, “I read that, too, but I don’t agree. And no one else has ever needed a steak knife”.
How fortunate I was there to hear this. After giving the couple some time to dig into their meals, I asked how they liked the Eggs Abraham and were they okay without steak knives. They both said it was great and no steak knife was needed.
Sweet Tooth had said a steak knife wasn’t required to cut hers either. So….I think the filet tournedos are tender and easy to cut with a table knife. I must have gotten the fluke filet that had a few tough-to-cut spots.
I wasn’t planning on doing a review, but there have been a couple of changes at MMM’s and some more information I’ll pass on to you, along with shots of two breakfast selections.
The Eggman’s Basic – “traditional 2 eggs, any way you like, with a choice of our signature hash browns, Chef Woody’s legendary grits, bacon, ham or sausage, served with biscuits or toasted homemade focaccia bread” ($4.95) was PIC’s choice.
For me, a “special order”. I asked for a couple of slices of French Toast, Bacon and two Scrambled Eggs. They were happy to oblige. The charge was $5.95.
Both breakfasts were very good, but I’d like to give special mention to the French Toast.
Our server told us they make all their white, rye and focaccia bread fresh every day (possibly other types, too), arriving at 4:00AM or 4:30AM (can’t remember which) to begin the baking process with the dough that has risen over the previous night. Their French Toast is made with thick slices of their wonderfully dense white bread. Served with sprinkles of powdered sugar and cinnamon. Delicious!
New at MMM’s are Beatle’s Salt and Pepper shakers on every table. Cute. They’ve added two more tables just inside the door, behind a half wall. These tables are high two-tops with bar-stool height chairs. During lunch hours on Wednesdays and Fridays, there’s live music. Just as we were leaving, a guitarist was setting up off to the side of the dining area. Sorry we missed hearing him play. And finally, they are working on a website, so hopefully we’ll be able to check out the menu, hours, etc. online soon.
