Oozing eclectic, bohemian energy, Asheville’s N Lexington Avenue is one of my favorite places. There are three or four spots for outdoor dining in the coffee shop, brewery, tea room, retail mix. And of course, can’t forget the French Broad Chocolate Lounge on S Lexington, just across Patton Ave.
The Southern has a prime location at the corner of N Lexington and E Walnut St. Their raised patio out front is the perfect spot for watching the action on Lexington and Walnut both.
As we nibbled and sipped, a mariachi band playing next door at LAB (Lexington Ave Brewery) added to the fun.
Two of us shared two Small Plates: Truffle Deviled Eggs ($3) and Pimento Cheese Crostini ($4).
While I like deviled eggs and have had them seasoned in various ways, these were a bit too “earthy” for me. As for the Crostini, very nicely done with what I think is house-made cheese.
One of us had a House Margarita – “Gold tequila mixed with Gran Gala, fresh squeezed lime juice & a touch of sugar”. Normally $7, it was on special for $5.
The other had a Belini – “Fresh peach nectar & bubbly in a tall flute” for $7. Mmmmm.
Both drinks were tasty and refreshing on a warm summer night.
