Cornbread Skillet opened in April, 2012 and already seems to have a local following.
They moved in to the space on Airport Road previously occupied by My Three Sons Pizzeria, semi-across the street from Acropolis Pizza.
The Skillet is owned by “Mr. Hot Dog” and”Mrs. Ice Cream”, formerly on Sweeten Creek Rd. Yes, hot dogs are on the menu, but this new concept offers well-rounded family-restaurant fare. A smart move in the Epicurean’s opinion. It’s also family-staffed.
Their prices are very reasonable, especially the All You Can Eat Sunday Family Meal for $12.95! Choose two meats for the table, 10 vegetables, Drink and Dessert. Party of 6 or more, 15% gratuity added. Kids under 10 $6.95, Kids under 5 Free. A family seated next to us ordered this. When the food came out, it reminded me of eating at Mrs. Wilkes in Savannah, GA: tabletop covered with dishes of meats and sides.
Both were cooked and served as you’d expect. Our server did ask PIC if he wanted peppers and onions with his home fries, so what’s pictured isn’t standard. And by the way, PIC ordered his egg poached and broke it up before I could snap a picture.
Some restaurants won’t serve eggs poached. Some only serve eggs poached during the week when the kitchen’s not so busy. Conbread Skillet will serve ’em poached anytime.
The Skillet is cute and friendly, with nice lighting from one wall of floor to ceiling windows. There are a couple tables outside. It’s also very clean inside and out.
- Cornbread Skillet is in a small strip mall, but that doesn’t detract.
- Their sausage and other meats are from M&M Freezer Locker Plant on 7th Ave E in Hendersonville.
