Finally! Good Chinese in Hendersonville

Do we actually have a good Chinese place in Hendersonville? It certainly looks like it.

Fortune Asian: Chinese, Hibachi & Thai opened recently at 1730 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville, previous location of Umi Asian.

Fortune Asian

My friend and fellow foodie, Bunny, and her husband have been a couple times and have nothing but praise for Fortune’s take on Chinese food. Here’s a short recap of their last visit:

“This afternoon we sat at the bar and talked with the hostess who we know and met the owners.

The menu has many more Chinese dishes on the menu. I had Won Ton soup and Orange chicken , of which I brought half home. My only comment was that the won tons were a little tough to cut with spoon. (They make their own dumplings) and a little large but the soup was tasty.

The Orange chicken was delicious and tender.  I also had fried rice, which I never order and that also was tasty.

Saw SeaFood Delight coming out of the kitchen and it looked good. They are open 7 days a week.”

    • Not clear from anything I’ve seen here so far: Are the owners new folks, or the same ones that tried several concepts, apparently unsuccessfuly, while it was Umi?

      • Without going directly to the source, Marv, I think there are new owners, the previous chef (used to work at PF Changs) is gone, but some of the same staff are still there.

And I haven’t eaten there since it became Fortune, but know people whose judgement I trust, who are saying the quality of the food has taken a giant leap.

Have you been? I’m planning on going asap. Good Chinese is one cuisine that has been elusive in WNC!

      • The new owners are definately new and have gone to great lengths to say so. Like I previously said, their Singapore Rice Noodles and Egg Foo Young are extremely good. Other dishes have been hit or miss. But I would definately stay away from their Drunken Noodles. Way too ‘gluey’.
