Ruins are all that’s left of St. Mary’s Abbey, once the richest abbey in the north of England. Even so, the ruins of this majestic Benedictine abbey are still beautiful.
The abbey is now part of the Yorkshire Museum Gardens. We didn’t make it into the museum, but loved wandering through the 10 acre botanical gardens created in the 1830’s.
We were lucky enough to be there in May, when all the tulips were blooming.
