Moe’s Original Bar B Que is one of the newer restaurants on Hendersonville’s Main Street. Located at 114 N. Main St., right across the street from the Historic Court House, their outdoor seating has a great view and is perfect for people watching.
Ordering is done at the counter area toward the back. They’ll give you glasses for drinks ordered. Take them over to the beverage machine on the opposite wall. Food ordered will be brought to your table.
Owner Dave Rice did a great job remodeling a space that had gone through numerous incarnations. Exposed brick, warm colors and lots of wood finishes create cozy ambiance in Moe’s street-level seating area. Seats by the front windows are also good for people watching.
Moe’s Pulled Pork Platter comes with two sides and (YUM) grilled cornbread. Couldn’t pass up Baked Beans – had them before and loved them – and special this day, Watermelon Salad. Made with onions and dill, it’s pretty refreshing.
Moe’s pulled pork, along with everything else they serve, is made in-house. I’d say it’s as good or better than pulled pork you’ll find anywhere. I almost didn’t need BBQ sauce, it was that tender, moist and flavorful.
My companion and I also wanted to try Moe’s Ribs and a couple more side specials. Corn Bread Dressing (L) and Squash Casserole (R) are pictured below. Moe’s ribs were excellent. But be forewarned, these ribs are not the fall-off-the-bone type. They are specifically cooked to retain texture as well as great flavor.
Specials are posted on a board outside and on Moe’s Hendersonville’s Facebook Page.
Two distinct seating areas are upstairs. Anyone can sit in the dining area toward the building front. This group of women took advantage of this space while we were there. They said it was fine to take their picture, by the way.
Toward the back is an awesome private space that can be rearranged as needed. There are tables with chairs, and sofa-type seating. Buffets can be set up here, also.
This building has had a long history of eateries leasing the space, only to find the upstairs didn’t meet current fire code. A second exit was required by the fire department. Dave bit the bullet and put in this (interesting/attractive) exit. All the railing you see will be stained soon. And I have a feeling the whole look back there will be spruced up. See the potted flowers? Who does that on a rear fire escape? Dave does.
Honestly, Moe’s Original BBQ is a great addition to Hendersonville.
