The Blak Mrkt Offers Curious Wares and a Peculiar Hangout

As sunlight fell to dusk on the eve of Friday, December 13th, glimmers of LED and neon lights shone bright at The Blak Mrkt. Hendersonville’s newest, dare say only, alternative bar and hangout, The Blak Mrkt opened its doors to patrons this past week at 425 N. Church Street in Hendersonville, NC.

The Blak Mrkt provides its guests a unique menu, wine by the glass, and a wide variety of draft and bottled beers. The menu, premised solely on three items: hot dogs, bacon, and house-made pimento cheese, offers true bar delicacies such as a basket of bacon, hot dog sammich, hot pimento cheese sammich, and warm pimento cheese nachos. Beers on hand feature many local flavors including brews from Green Man, Oskar Blues, Highland, Hi-Wire, Catawba, and RJ Rockers breweries, in addition to their large variety of farther reaching ales.

Not only does this dive bar offer eccentric food, and flavorful beer, but also a hangout that is relaxed and comfortable, while also being alternative and funky. The owners of The Blak Mrkt, Kelly and Mike Pace, wanted it to be known that uniqueness was appreciated, embraced, and even cultivated in this atmosphere. Said owner, Kelly Pace, “My husband is co-owner of High Caliber Custom Tattoo, and being of that culture already, we wanted to bring that into this new venture as well. Even during the hiring process we let applicants know that, unlike at many other businesses, tattoos and piercings did not need to be covered up or hidden. We want everyone that walks in our door to feel comfortable and a part of our ‘alternative’ family, so to speak.”

The Blak Mrkt caters to those who like to grab and go as well. Menu items can of course be ordered to go, though also available for purchase are items such as Buchi Kombucha, a variety of packaged beers, sodas, water, Gatorade, energy drinks, granola and CLIF bars, candy, snacks, and cigarettes. As this eclectic venue continues to grow items such as Vape pens, e-cigarettes, oddities, and eccentric munchies, snacks, and candies will be added to their line of curious wares.

Sure to make an impact on the downtown Hendersonville scene, they welcome and invite everyone to come by and check them out. Hours are Monday through Saturday 10:00am – 10:00pm and Sunday 1:00pm – 6:00pm. Fans of The Blak Mrkt are also encouraged to keep up with them on Facebook at www.facebook/blakmrkt.
