Yes, there are a number of places to get fresh seafood in the mountains of Western North Carolina, but I wanted to tell you about two unique sources that offer good prices and live lobsters.
The first is a sweet little spot in Clyde called Sentelle’s Seafood & Grocery.
Inside, you’ll find basic groceries. AND a fresh seafood cold case and crystal clear live lobster tank. This is a family owned and run shop that’s been in business in this location for a long time. They used to bring in live lobsters only as ordered, but decided to set up a tank and bring a few in regularly.
Not just any tank, this setup was costly due to cooling and other requirements needed to maintain an optimum environment for the lobsters.
The lobsters certainly looked healthy and animated the day we stopped in.
Sentelle’s is located at 8275 Carolina Boulevard, Clyde, NC. If you’re looking for something specific, give them a call at (828) 627-2177.
The second is the Asheville Lobster Club.
“Exciting news for everyone in Asheville who loves fresh live Maine lobsters!
Now you can enjoy live Maine lobsters and fish in Asheville by joining The Lobster Club. We order once per month for delivery on the last Friday of that month and most holidays. All 1 1/4 pound lobsters are weighed at the lobster pound and arrive within 1/8th of a pound when delivered. You can enjoy these delicious, healthy deep sea crustaceans right in your own home at an unbelievable low price. Join today — there are no membership fees or minimum orders.”
“The Lobster Club now brings in the freshest fish!
See our selection of fresh fish for delivery this month. If you like fish, you will love ours!”
We bring in loins of the freshest fish available after it is weighed, cryovac, labeled and packed on ice. This is the way you receive it. There is a minimum weight of 2 lbs plus, as the fish is hand cut.”
I haven’t ordered from the Lobster Club, but a friend of mine has. She knows her lobster and said these were good quality and very well priced.
Place an order during the month, then meet owner Micheal Scharf to pick up your fresh fish and lobster in the parking lot of the Innsbrook Mall, just off Tunnel Rd., the last Friday of each month and on many holidays. See a MAP and more delivery info HERE.
