The Honey Pot

Winston-Salem – I’m writing about The Honey Pot in a random, incomplete kind of way because I had a huge digital image and note mishap, but wanted to share what photos I was able to save and let you know about this W-S spot you should check out when you’re in town.

A new Southern brasserie featuring a variety of hyper-seasonal chef inspired dishes and well executed comfort food.

A couple of us stopped in while in Winston-Salem on a “what’s new” media tour. Loved the decor of this cozy space. We were there after dark, and I’m guessing the ambiance was at its best in that lighting. We’ll have to go back for lunch to check out that theory.

The Honey Pot is Chef-driven and seasonally inspired. Menus are not extensive, but are thoughtfully created and executed. Some consider pricing high. I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I did think some prices were a bit high. But on the other hand, the dishes we ordered were delicious and creative. Take a look at their menu on their website and also scan their Facebook Page for the latest menu. Doing both will give you a good idea of what to expect.

That being said, I do recommend you give it a try.

Grit Puppies ($8) with apple jam and honeysuckle butter. Generously portioned and delicious. I’d pop in for some of these for a snack any day.

The Honey Pot

Pimento Cheese ($6?) with bread. Cute presentation. Good house-made cheese.

The Honey Pot

Grilled Asparagus ($12) with a poached egg, dashi vinaigrette, shitake mushroom, breadcrumbs, and pecorino. Asparagus lovers, order this! So tasty dipping pieces of asparagus into the egg after it had been punctured.

Scallops. Not sure what the exact price was for this dish, but on various posted Honey Pot menus, pricing averages in the mid $20s. Another great mix of flavors and textures.

The Honey Pot

Buttermilk Fried Guinea Breast ($22) heritage bird, mac n’ cheese, benne seed cole slaw, and honey. Absolutely delicious. Loved the fry on the bird. Mixing a little of each item on the plate in one bite makes a big difference in overall taste. Do it.
