Fletcher – We had dinner last night at a new place in Fletcher, NC – Olive Tree Bistro.
If you’re not familiar with Fletcher, NC, there is no “downtown” or “Main Street”. Hendersonville Rd. (Hwy 25) goes right through the center of things. Olive Tree is in a strip mall right on Hendersonville Rd. with a Dollar General, Grocery Outlet, Fletcher Lamp Post (killer for lamps, repairs, parts), a hair salon, and one or two more shops.
Their menu is mostly Italian: Pizza (house-made dough daily), Pasta, Subs, with a few Greek offerings: Greek Salad, Gyros, Greek Pizza.
Inside is cozy, kind of like a diner. Think neighborhood place serving good Italian/Greek while playing country music. Two of our local finest (cops) came in for their dinner break while we were there.
I’m thinking someone they know or in the family knows how to sew. If I’m not mistaken, the table coverings and bench seating have all been made recently.
Seating is a bit of an issue. And I mean it really is a small issue, but worth mentioning. Their bench seats are high. I’m 5’8″ and my feet did not (or barely) touched the floor – depending on how I was sitting – up front or back all the way.
One of my legs was “tingly” by the end of dinner. There are two reasons this happened; the height of the bench and the incredibly firm cushions that create an “edge” at the bench front. On the positive side, these cushions will make getting up after your meal easy if you have trouble getting up from cushy chairs or sofas you sink in to. You know who you are.
Don’t let the seating thing keep you from going, though. The food is good and very reasonably priced.
House-made meat sauce and generous amounts of cheese made this Lasagna ($9.40) dish. It was served with a House Salad and Garlic Bread, as all pasta dishes are.
Looking surprisingly similar, but definitely different was my Stuffed Shells ($8.40) with house-made meat sauce and a nice cheese mixture in the shells, House Salad and Garlic Bread.
Both PIC and I thought the sauce (gravy) was good and the pasta was cooked correctly. We’ll be going back.
