Asheville Innkeeper’s New Book Invites Holiday Signings, Cooking Events

Asheville, N.C. – Our Family Table: Recipes & Lessons From a Life Abroad is a stylish collection of doable recipes, smart tips and family stories by Susan Murray, resident traveler and innkeeper at Carolina Bed & Breakfast in Asheville, N.C.

Our Family TableSusan Murray grew up dividing her time between North Carolina and Connecticut, in a family of diplomats. At age 26, she packed her copy of The Joy of Cooking and moved to Paris for her new husband’s job. Twenty-seven years later, after living in Paris, Hong Kong, London and Singapore, the couple returned to the United States and bought the Carolina Bed and Breakfast in the historic Montford District of Asheville in 2009.

Successful empty nesters, they painted the living room of their 1901 Arts and Crafts-style bungalow a vibrant sapphire blue; they filled their home with art and family treasures collected from around the world. James helped guests plan their Asheville adventures. Susan planted her garden and cooked.

“The fun of creating a great dish and sharing it with others is something everyone should experience,” Susan says. “The recipes are a distillation of all the things I have learned, tasted, seen and done. It shouldn’t be scary to cook a meal. If I can help someone cook for their friends and everyone enjoys it, this book is a success.”
