Valle Crucis, NC – Chef/Owner Andy Long of Over Yonder Restaurant in Valle Crucis announced the beginning of a new dining series in the High Country, “Rising Chefs of Appalachia”. Long intends to turn his kitchen over to young, up and coming and aspiring chefs from the area and give them free reign to create a menu and dining experience that showcases their individual personalities.
“It’s very difficult as a young cook to get your name out there”, says Long. “I want this to be an opportunity for them to really express themselves, to show us what you’ve got. We already have some promising talent lined up to kick this series off, and I’m really excited to change things up a little bit and have some fun here during the Winter.”
The first dinner was Wednesday, February 1st at Over Yonder. The guest chef was Thomas Butler of The New Public House in Blowing Rock and his Pop-up experience was entitled, “Rooted: Exploring Vegetarian Cuisine”. “Thomas had a really great plan in that he featured a vegetable-centered menu that was also entirely gluten-free”, says Long.
Cooks interested in applying to headline their own dinner should contact Chef Long at [email protected] The next dinner, “Una Noche Espanola”, on February 15th features Spanish tapas from Chef Christina Fasanello.
