By Bunny & Himself ~ We decided recently to try the Flat Rock Wood Room for a late lunch. Pleasantly surprised, but glad we went a bit late. I called ahead to see if they closed after 2:30 pm and was told that they are open all day. Each time we pass, the parking lot is full. We hadn't really planned on having dinner at Smoke on the Water. We had planned on taking advantage of Smoke's Happy Hour. From 4:00pm to 7:00pm Monday through Saturday, drinks are downright cheap, making this one of the best Happy Hours in town. Draft Beer and Liquor Drinks - 1/2 Off, Bottles of Beer and Glasses of Wine - $1.00 Off. Moe's Original BBQ opened last month (July) at 4 Sweeten Creek Road in Asheville. Moe's Asheville location is their 16th, but first in North Carolina. From Hendersonville it's a downhill, curvy drive on Hwy 176 to Saluda. What is it about a restaurant in a former gas station that makes you want to stop and check it out?As we drove by 12 Bones Smokehouse on Sweeten Creek Rd in Arden a couple of weeks ago, teen daughter said, "oh look, I'd really like to go there." The Back Room at Flat Rock Wine Shoppe is serving up an old fashion Guiness Stew, Bangers and Blankets, (which are pastrys stuffed with sausage, onions, and tomatoes). Wednesday (1/14) was perfect for a day trip. Outside - crispy-cold, clear blue Carolina mountains. Inside the car - music, good conversation, sun-shiny, warm and cozy. We left Hendersonville on US Hwy 64 West, passing through Brevard, then winding our way up and through a couple small towns, Lake Toxaway, Sapphire and Cashiers on the way to Highlands. BIG NEWS for us bones and brisket lovers!12 Bones Smokehouse has opened a second location on Sweeten Creek Rd in Arden. Their original location is still going strong in the River Arts District.They've taken an old service station and done a great remodel, keeping lots of the original exterior features. Love it!Didn't get a chance to go inside yet, but if they have the imagination I think they do, that garage-bay door will be open in warmer weather. Corn comes and goes in cycles around Hendersonville.As an observer, meaning not a participant like a farmer, each year I watch the fields prepped, fertilized, planted, harvested and then prepped again. That's a bit simplistic, but you get the idea.The summer is especially fun because the corn grows so quickly.
