Sleek. Sassy. Sazerac. One of the oldest known cocktails and purportedly, the first cocktail invented in America, the Sazerac dates from pre-Civil War New Orleans, Louisiana. Asheville's Sazerac, the restaurant, dates from Fall, 2009. Stepping inside, the first thought that popped into my head was that it reminded me of a Pullman dining car. Lunch in the Cellar
The only below-street-level eatery on Main Street, Cypress Cellar is cozy and welcoming. Their space is interesting in that they have a patio which is also subterranean, but open to the street above.A wall-sized mural of cypress trees growing out of a lake or bayou, along with a central fountain, rock walls and a random rock patio surface create an unusual feel.
