Where Everybody Knows Your Name,

Tollivers Crossing

and they're always glad you came. Tolliver's Crossing (Irish Pub) - classic Neighborhood Bar. PIC and I happened to be in West Asheville this past Sunday night and decided to stop in for a pint and a bite. Tolliver's is very much like a place I used to hang with my friends in college. Half my friends went by names like Finn, Flynn, Quinn, McEvoy - you get the idea. The other half went by names like Frankie, Sal, Tony - (but, that's another story). There was a small crowd of regulars, … [Read more...]

Bouchon Street Food

Time for some Asheville street food - French style. Bouchon Street Food is a child of Bouchon (the restaurant). It lives in the alley next door, but in no way is it treated as a "stepchild". Craig Peters, Mr. Crepe himself, mans the one-person booth, turning out some of the most delicious crepes in town. They're light, airy and filled with deliciousness, both savory and sweet. Step up to the window to order from the posted menu or take a menu and sit for a few minutes to decide what … [Read more...]

Can We Chaat?

Chai Pani

Open almost one year at 22 Battery Park Ave, Asheville, Chai Pani serves Indian Street Food as well as other traditional Indian dishes. It's an interesting concept - street food served in a restaurant. I think there might be a slight cultural thing going on here when people complain about inattentive service at Chai Pani and having to get their own water and silverware. In India, street food is just that. It's served from stalls, carts or through windows to the … [Read more...]

Travinia Inspires More Reader Reviews, Including Photos!

Submitted by David: We went to Travinia (Italian Kitchen) last evening for a birthday dinner.... ...a very pleasant experience! Starters was the Crabby Shrimp Alfredo Dip, sinfully rich and delicious, a meal in itself! (But I may have to increase my dose of Crestor (: They serve a warm, large roll as a bread service, along with chopped olives and oil, and we ordered a nice Caesar's salad. My wife had the Sinatra Chicken, which was terrific and probably will make for three more meals, and … [Read more...]

Travinia Italian Kitchen – Reader Review

We visited Travinia on Wednesday, 11/4 and were impressed with the decor, service and food.My wife had the Pasta with Bolognese and said it was the best she has had. I had a Rigatoni with a Shortrib Bolognese that was rich and very "beefy". Excellent preparation. Our guest had the Chicken Parm and the portion was huge, took half home. My Caesar Salad was very well done, the server was attentive, with Pepper Mill and freshly grated Parm-Reg on hand for both salad and entrees. While we all stuck … [Read more...]

Sylva Blackout? Go to "Plan D"

"D" as in "Dillsboro", that is. Traveling South on the Blue Ridge Parkway from Hendersonville this time of year, the scenery is amazing. Long range views of blue mountain ridges, one behind another, contrasted by a foreground of flaming foliage on hillsides folding over each other in some riotous game of "top this!" Plan A: lunch at one of the restaurants on West Main Street in Sylva after a Fall drive on the Parkway. Plan Foiled: town of Sylva blacked out. We're guessing someone on the road … [Read more...]
