Morning Glory Evening

Morning Glory Cafe

Morning Glory Cafe hasn't really been on our radar for dinner. Breakfast, definitely. PIC and I stopped in for dinner and were wowed. Even though you think of squash as more of a Fall/Winter menu item, it sounded so good, I had to give it a try. Morning Glory's Stuffed Local Squash ($14) is an acorn squash, stuffed with chorizo sausage, brown rice, bell peppers, onions, pistachios and dried cranberries. My tastes were accommodated by their willingness to leave the sausage out of … [Read more...]

Beer Y'all Screening @ Pisgah Brewing 10/7

Beer Y'all follows their nine days of hanging out with brewers, partying at rock shows, and drinking many, many beers as they celebrate friendship, music, and a Southern microbrewing explosion. This is the last scheduled viewing of the film Beer Y'all. The building actually looks like it could have been transported to this location from … [Read more...]

New Restaurant in Black Mountain

Every now and then, we grab some breakfast at a place in Black Mountain called The Front Porch. Last weekend, we parked, walked in, sat down.....and noticed something was different. It was brighter and cleaner - that was it. Someone had gotten really motivated and scrubbed the place 'till it shined, and for good measure, put up new bright white blinds in all the windows. When the server brought menus, the front was completely blank. Open the cover of the tri-fold menu and - blank. Turn it … [Read more...]

Veranda Cafe & Gifts, Black Mountain

Okay, here is the inside fall/winter scoop: the “go to” place for home-made soup is Veranda Café & Gifts in Black Mountain. Last week I found myself in Black Mountain, browsing at Tyson Furniture. By the time I’d perused through the maze they call a store (this was fun, don’t get me wrong), I was ready for some lunch. It was such a beautiful day, I decided to leave the car parked and walk around until I found a restaurant that struck my fancy. There were no … [Read more...]

The Dripolator, Black Mountain

Some Saturdays, usually during the cooler months, I spend an hour and a half at the Dripolator waiting for a family member who volunteers weekly at Animal Haven, out on Lower Grassy Branch Rd. I hadn't been to the Dripolator in a while and was happy to see that the place had undergone a face lift. The old sofas had lots of character, but I'm not sorry to see them go.There's usually a pretty good group of regulars there on Saturday mornings, but this weekend the regulars were joined by lots of … [Read more...]
