“Making Wine 101” will be taught at Falderal Winery on Thursday, December 13, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The class focuses on the basics of making wine at home, including making wine from kits. Cost is $30 per person or $50 per couple, which includes the class/demonstration, one bottle of wine from Falderal Winery, and a tasting of various wines available at the retail shop. Falderal Winery is at 131 Third Avenue West, downtown Hendersonville. Reservations must be made in advance. Participants purchasing wine-making kits or wine-making supplies receive a 10% discount on the purchase price. Phone Falderal Winery at 693-7676 or email email@example.com to sign up or for more information.
“If you make wine using one of our kits you’ll produce about 30 bottles of good wine ready to serve in 28 to 45 days, depending on the type of wine you’re making,” said Paul Kovacich. Kovacich is winemaster at Falderal Winery and teaches the class. “Folks who want to have their own wine ready to serve early next year will want to take this class.”
Falderal’s own award-winning bottled and labeled wines are made in the winery from the kits sold in the store and from local fruits. Falderal’s 2011 Cabernet Franc, made from local grapes, recently won a gold medal at the 2012 North Carolina State Fair Wine Competition. Kit ingredients come from well-known wine-producing regions of the world, such as Germany, Spain, France, Australia, California, and many other regions. The winery is located below the retail shop.
In addition, beer-making kits are available as well as supplies and equipment for the do-it-yourself homebrewer and at-home winemaker in the Falderal Winery retail store.
Individual or group wine-making classes can be scheduled by appointment.
