After six years in Black Mountain, Chocolate Gems has moved to Asheville, opening their doors for business last Monday, September 5th.
Owners Susan and Andrew Chisholm needed a bigger space and they found it at 25 Broadway St. Now they have plenty of room to make from-scratch Chocolates and Gelato.
I sampled the Chocolate Gelato (natch) and was impressed with the depth of flavor. Andrew told me some people have said the Gelato was too chocolaty. Really? TOO chocolaty??? I don’t think so. What I got with my taste was three layers of flavor, each richer than the previous. Delicious!
The Espresso Machine is hooked up and ready to go and I also spotted a milkshake blender. Not quite sure what they’re going to do with that? A lot of their equipment right in the middle of their shop so you can watch the action while you nibble & sip.

Is the gelato real gelato, made out of milk? That would be awesome.
The owners told me they make the Gelato, as well as the chocolates, from scratch. So, I’d assume it is “real” Gelato. Next time I’m in there, I’ll ask to be sure. And if you get an answer first, please post it here.
