Mall Sushi

A sign outside Wild Wok Asian Bistro at the Asheville Mall caught my attention yesterday afternoon: “1/2 Price Sushi 3-6:30pm”.

It was 2:55pm, so you know I marched myself right in there to be seated! Booths line the hallway-like area under the fun, intriguingly-lit “sky”. A small “sushi bar” is at the street end of Wild Wok’s space. More seating and a cozy bar that seems to be constantly busy, is at the inside-mall end.

Service was good, and it didn’t take long until two rolls landed on my table.

A “Crunchy Roll” (6 pieces, normally $6.95) made with shrimp tempura and smelt roe was beautiful. A “salad of long, thin shreds of carrot and radish were in the middle, supporting pieces of ginger and a small ball of Wasabi paste.

The Vegetable Roll (6 pieces, normally $4.25) was just as pretty, in a more subtle way. Inside are cucumber, asparagus, avocado, and carrot.

Rice on both rolls was a little too chewy for my taste, but otherwise both were good.

Total, before tax and tip – $6.00.

As of this writing, Wild Wok serves half price sushi seven days a week between the hours of 3pm and 6:30pm.
