Piedmont welcomes John May as Executive Chef

Durham, NC – This week, during Triangle Restaurant Week, Piedmont celebrates Chef Greg Gettles’ final week at Piedmont, and eagerly announces Chef John May as its new Executive Chef.

“At Piedmont – co-owned by farmers Jamie DeMent and Richard Holcomb of the 55-acre Coon Rock Farm in Hillsborough, NC – we pride ourselves in collaborating with rising chefs of the region,” explained Piedmont’s General Manager, Crawford Leavoy. “We salute Chef Gettles for his work, further establishing Piedmont as a destination for locals and travelers alike who value an exceptional farm-to-fork dining experience.”

“We are delighted to introduce another one of the area’s rising chefs to our guests at Piedmont – and one that has a unique appreciation for North Carolina’s farms thanks to his two and a half year tenure at Chef Vivian Howard’s award-winning Chef & The Farmer in Kinston, NC,” said Piedmont’s Leavoy. “May brings a passion for storytelling through his food, and will continue to guide Piedmont as one of the region’s flagship restaurants for delicious food from responsible sources. We welcome him into our family as both a farm and a restaurant,” offered Piedmont and Coon Rock Farm’s owner, Richard Holcomb.

“I’ve been searching for exactly this opportunity – to join a restaurant in the Durham community which celebrates North Carolina farms,” explained May, a Durham native, who most recently worked at The Boot. “I’m really excited to be so closely connected to a diverse, local organic farm – as we are with Piedmont’s sister farm, Coon Rock Farm – and to be returning home to share my cooking with Durham’s rich dining community.”

Chef John May will begin August 1st. In the interim, Chef de Cuisine Lorenzo Leon-Guerrero, who has been with Piedmont for two years, will serve as chef.
