New Restaurant/Bar Opens on Main St. Hendersonville

Hendersonville welcomes it’s newest Restaurant & Bar tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 14th when Cask and Wine on Main opens at 536 N Main St. NOTE: name change from Cask and Vine to Cask and Wine on Main.

Taglined – “Casual Dining • Fine Spirits • Wine” – Cask & Vine will have a focus on excellent Bourbons, as well as other liquors and wine.

Expect “on the rocks” pours of 2oz, rather than the 1 1/2oz more commonly seen. Cocktails look to be priced between $10 and $13, with many at $11. Not sure what well drinks will run.

Food is intentionally portioned generously. “We expect most people will be leaving with boxes”, says Bivens.

As far as the menu, look for Pub Fare, Salads and “Plates” served with a salad and roll. Possibly Deviled Eggs, Brisket Chili, Hot Browns, a little Surf, and a little Turf.

Cask & Vine

Owner Steven Bivens will open the doors for lunch service at 11am. Planed hours are Monday – Saturday 11am to 9pm and Sunday Brunch, with a dedicated Brunch menu, from 11am to 3pm.

Soft jazz will be played as background music most of the time, but don’t be surprised if some other genres make an appearance.

When I stopped in today and talked with Steven, I noted a new tin ceiling, a new service bar build half way back in the space, and black tablecloths on plenty of tables. Walls have been painted black, which can sometimes be a problem, but I think this space will carry it off. Especially in the evenings when the lights are low.

    • Personally, I think it’s a good move for him to open on N Main Street. The Bistro at Cummings Cove is just too far off the beaten path and doesn’t have enough support from community residents. Not the resident’s fault. There’re just too many other options in the area.

      I had lunch at The French Broad yesterday. I usually give new restaurants a month or so to get on their feet and shake out any possible kinks before I write an actual review.

      After chatting with the owner, I can tell you that I have a good feeling about her (along with her husband) and her team. They want feedback, and it feels like they take it to heart.

      It might be wrong of me, but I will say that the dessert – Butternut Squash Panna Cotta with Tamarind and a crunchy granola-type mix that included pumpkin seeds was the best part of my meal.

      Their cocktail list included one of my favorite drinks, Moscow Mules, in a number of creative versions. They almost had me, but decided to save it for my next visit.

      As far as menu pricing, someone else said something I agree with at this point. He said he puts their price point on par with Postero and Brandy’s on Main. Most, including me are willing to pay for exceptional food, but it really does have to be consistently delicious.

      We had a similar experience for dinner Wednesday night. All four of us commented that, while the food was good, it wasn’t truly exceptional. A nice variety of entrées and appetizers that are not common enough to find in Hendo, and certainly that elegant and comfortable setting upstairs will warrant a return trip.

  1. Had dinner there tonight. Hubs had pork chops and I had the Grinder meatloaf sandwich. Both were delicious!

  2. Went to Cask & Vine today with a friend. We were pleased with the food, service and atmosphere. Prices were reasonable. We are both hoping they make it. It’s the type of restaurant we need in Hendersonville, NC.

  3. We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. The Brussels sprouts and brocollini are excellent and I kept smelling that brisket throughout the next day. Service was ok, but underdressed for such a classy place. Drinks were great, especially the Long Island ice teas.
